Thanks for joining us on this journey of building a consistent habit of reading our Bibles every day. The Bible reading plan we are using this year can be found here: One Year Bible or here on the Bible app. As always, if you miss a day, don’t feel compelled to go back and catch up. Just skip it and start back on today’s date. I am reading the NLT this year, but feel free to use whatever version you prefer. Now here are some thoughts from today’s readings:
The apostles said to the Lord, “Show us how to increase our faith.”
- Luke 17:5
We think of this verse in the context of miracles and great feats of faith. In response, Jesus even gives his famous mustard seed speech. But if your look at this passage in context, you find it is really about forgiveness. Jesus tells them how much they will have have the forgive and the disciples can’t even fathom it. They recognized that without greater faith, they weren’t going to be able to forgive like that.
Jesus said that baby, small, seed-sized faith could move mountains. He was talking about mountains of offense. The first step of getting great faith is to let little faith do its work in you. Don’t expect God to move you to deeper or greater levels if you don’t master the basic level of faith, forgiveness. Forgive people today, and begin the journey to greater faith!
Who do you need to forgive? Why is so hard to forgive them? Do you need to ask for greater faith?
